How to Research a Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Center

By Sara Guppy

Obesity in this country (U.S.) has now become an epidemic and statistics show that over a half a million individuals are overweight. A large percentage are considered to be morbidly obese. There are increased risks of in those instances such as hypertension, heart disease as well as diabetes and other illnesses that can come along with it.

A surgical procedure such as a mini gastric bypass surgery, offers much hope to many people suffering from obesity. This procedure involves shrinking the stomach region. If this procedure is performed at a professional and certified bariatric surgery center in Mexico, the condition can be permanently reversed.

First used in 1967, mini gastric bypass surgery has evolved and improved steadily in the 40 years since then. In 2005, more than 140,000 Americans underwent the procedure. In gastric bypass surgery, a doctor makes a small pouch at the top of the patients stomach and then creates a bypass around part of the patients stomach and small intestine.

The procedure redirects the food and will cause it to move around the stomach area which beneficially, reduces the patients ability to absorb the calories. The mini gastric bypass surgery can be a challenging procedure to undergo, and will require a lot of planning and determination.

Because of their size, many patients require special furniture and hospital equipment adapted to deal with patients who can exceed their ideal body weight by 100 pounds or more. Also important is the aftercare of the patients, as they deal with the psychological ramifications of changing their perception of and attitude toward food and as they deal with a new diet and habits and the physical effects of the surgery.

Unfortunately, not all mini gastric bypass surgery centers offer the same level of care. The bariatric surgery center you choose should offer not just quality surgical care, but also a solid support group and follow-up program.

When choosing a bariatric mini gastric bypass surgery center, don't be afraid to ask questions. This is a life-changing experience, and you need to be able to trust the center where the surgery is performed. Ask about the centers track record and how long they've been doing the surgeries. Also check out the aftercare the center in Mexico offers and find out if they offer support groups too. If you're not comfortable with the center in Mexico, don't use it.

There are many bariatric mini gastric bypass surgery centers in Mexico to choose from, but locating the one that fits your needs will not be as easy. Carefully research the credentials and track profile of the surgeon.
