Marijuana Addiction: Dealing with Rehab

By Ilya Walker

The whole topic of marijuana addiction is riddled with controversy. It tends to get either all the wrong type of attention or just no attention at all. On one hand, the evidence that it is addictive in the same way that tobacco, caffeine, or cocaine is addictive is well - weak. Then you have the claims of real people talking about their marijuana addiction, and the description sounds like that of any hard drug addiction. Whatever the case may be, drug rehabilitation centers around the country admit thousands of users each year who seek help with their relationship to marijuana.

It can be very intimidating submitting ones self to a rehab facility. You might wonder if it's like walking into a prison. Having an understanding of what you're likely to experience will put these fears to rest. This article will look at what you will likely deal with at any rehab center if you go in for marijuana addiction, or for that matter, any addictive drug or behavior you are trying to get control over.

1. A scheduled environment with a lot of structure. This is done to keep people busy and active, not bored and left to themselves. Don't fret - ample opportunity is given to relaxation and personal time, but do expect their to be a schedule that everyone follows for meals and activities.

2. Personal counseling and therapy. Expect to talk one to one with someone about your drug use, drug history, and your goals in life and your goals in coming to rehab. Personal therapy may be a staple of your rehab experience or just a spare activity.

3. Expect group therapy sessions. This will likely happen very often in rehab, going to group therapy. This provides a safe setting for people to share their stories, connect with another, and offer support to the group. You will not be forced to participate but you will probably want to do so after experiencing one or two sessions.

4. Expect to have time specifically for exercising. Exercising is one of the greatest means of taking control of your own behavior. It enforces discipline and increases self confidence, not to mention it just makes you feel better over all. Many facilities will coordinate daily walks on the grounds. Some will even have in house gyms and exercise equipment, including such luxuries as swimming pools for exercise and also relaxation.

5. Time is also given for resting and even spiritual growth. You can take that however you want, but many rehab places offer room for the spiritual experience. This is very helpful for many people going through drug addiction.

Confessing up to a drug problem takes real bravery. Marijuana addiction is such as distorted subject in our culture that it makes it even harder when it's a problem for you. Going into rehab is a huge step in taking control of that problem. By reading this article, you should be mentally prepared for what to face upon admittance into a marijuana addiction treatment facility.
