Treatments For 7 Dry Skin Causes

By Peter Albertonach

Dry skin can be extremely annoying. What causes dry skin and what can you do about it? Here's 8 dry skin causes and suggested dry skin treatments.

There are a wide range of factors that can produce dry skin. Some are more rare than others.

You'd be surprised at how common dry skin conditions are, and how many people are searching for dry skin treatments. Some conditions are easy to treat, some not so easy.

And dry skin can be so irritating. You skin can be dull and flaky, red, swollen and painful. And really really itchy.

Normal skin has an outer layer of oils that are naturally produced by the skin, and help protect our skin. But for various reasons these outer oils can be removed resulting in what is known as dry skin.

So lets look at some dry skin causes. Theres some that are easy to treat, and some not so easy.

1. Long hot baths. Now I know you love that bath as hot as you can get it and love to soak for hours if you can. But that takes away those natural skin oils and dries your skin. A shower is better than a bath, shorter and not as hot.

2. Skin care products and cosmetics. Is this a surprise to you? Is this the first time you've heard that many big brand name skin care products and cosmetics actually have ingredients in them that are dangerous to your skin?

There are many ingredients found in big name products that actually dry your skin. Mineral oil is an example. It is a petrochemical product used in skin care products because it is cheap and it actually dries and damages your skin.

High quality natural skin care products are way better for your skin, won't damage it and will overcome dry skin conditions more easily.

3. Exposure to the sun. Don't ever get sunburned if you can avoid it. Sunburn dries and damages the skin, and can lead to skin cancer.

4. Weather. Dry cold weather can dry your skin, so if you live in a place where you get very cold dry winters you may get dry skin in winter. More humid summers and it may go away. Use a high quality natural moisturizer or even better a fully formulated natural skin care range that is designed to combat skin dryness.

5. Soaps and detergents. There are many modern soaps and detergents as well as shampoos which can dry your skin. Many of these also contain ingredients that are bad for you. Avoid soaps with deodorizers, you don't need them. And the same for anti bacterial soaps. In fact avoid soaps which lather a lot and make you feel squeaky clean, these are often signs of soaps that will dry your skin. Look for natural soaps fragrance and deodorant free and keep trying until you find a soap that works for you.

6. Psoriasis, medical conditions, and drugs. Many medical conditions, like psoriasis and eczema, can cause dry skin, and some drugs can too. For specific medical conditions consult your doctor.

7. And you can also get skin dryness from itchy clothes, so don't wear clothes that itch

There's 7 causes of dry skin. But what do you do about it? Well for medical conditions as I've said, see a doctor or dermatologist. But often this isn't necessary.

So remember, use natural soaps and shampoos, and keep trying them until you find one that suits your skin. And remember that any time you're buying something that goes on your skin look for a natural alternative with no nasty chemicals. Natural alternatives are often cheaper and safer. And keep showers shorter and cooler.

And consider using a range of natural skin care products. The best natural skin care products contain natural oils like avocado oil and Babassu oil from the nut of the Babassu tree, both excellent and perfectly safe natural moisturizers. These will do wonders for any dry skin conditions.

It may sound counter intuitive but the best natural skin care products on the market are actually very cost competitive to the big brands skin care ranges, not to mention working better and being safer. This is because they are made by a company that doesn't advertise on TV, so doesn't need to factor the huge costs of TV advertising into their products.

So there's 7 dry skin causes, many of which you can treat with some of the dry skin treatments I've suggested here. Combine all the strategies I've suggested together with a regime of high quality natural skin care products and you're well on your way to successfully combating that most annoying dry skin.
