The Discount Wedding Gowns Really Worth The Price?

By Jason Myers

A bride asked me recently what the catch was with purchasing discounted wedding gowns online. "It all sounds too good to be true" were her statement. Initially I was astonished that she believed there was a catch then I discovered that being in the business for a long time I was taking my own knowledge for granted. Once I explained the pricing process she gave me a rye smile and uttered "So I really can get a bargain online without compromising on quality". Conversing with her reminded me that getting a wedding dress is, for most brides, a new experience and probably there are a lot more more brides who simply needed to be provided a little insider knowledge to realise the fantastic price savings they can have on the internet. Below is a general review of how the High Street puts a price their gowns.

The manufacturer produces the gowns usually in a country where labour costs are relatively low; China, India etc. They sell the gowns to wholesalers in the USA Europe or Australia who then place their label on the dresses. every Label wholesaler, you know the names, then hike the price and market the dresses to their selected high street stores with recommended retail price rules. They never wish to create competition between their stores so price cutting is frond upon.

The High Street then marks up the cost to the suggested retail price to cover their expenses and earn a profit. There is nothing wrong with any of that; it's the way business works. So why internet sellers can mark down their wedding gowns so much?

There are a couple of areas where internet distributors can offer you huge savings. First they may cut out the middleman and buy directly from the manufacturer; the down side to this is that you don't have a brand to boast about. The next discount comes from the reality that internet overheads are very cheap compared to running and staffing a high street store.

There is a third and not quite so evident saving which is made from shipping and handling costs. Online gowns may just be transported one time from the manufacturer directly to your door whereas a High Street dress is handled two or three times before you receive it.
