Ingredients of Ambi Fade Cream for Skin Discoloration

By Kelly Weiren

A popular household name patronized by many, Ambi has an array of skin care lines, including the Ambi Fade Cream. Because of its promise of visibly reducing skin darkening, freckles, dark and sun spots and age lines, many people seeking whiter, more radiant skin have turned to this product. Two weeks of use is said to deliver results. While this may be true for a minority of users, it is misleading for most. Here are some things that most people might not know about Ambi Fade Cream:

Active ingredients

Ambi Fade Cream's triple action method involves components and ingredients such as Hydroquinone (which is the main active ingredient of the product), Alpha Hydroxy, Vitamin E and Octinoxate. Hydroquinone comprises 2% of the composition of the formula as well as Octinoxate, therefore the two Ambi Fade Cream ingredients make up the largest share of concentration.

Safety

For many years, a lot of cosmetic products and skin care products contained hydroquinone until the substance was banned in 2001 due to its potentially dangerous side effects. Even if it is very promising when it comes to lightening your skin, the long-term effects of hydroquinone are very dangerous, since it has cancer-causing elements that can promote hydroquinone hyperpigmentation. Furthermore, it is also linked to disorders such as blood diseases, ochronosis (skin thickening and darkening), and adrenal gland abnormalities.

Octinoxate on the other hand, works as a sunscreen that blocks UVB from the sun. Ironicaly, the ingredient is most widely used in sun screen products despite its unstable condition when subjected to sunlight. The ingredient gets converted into Z-octyl-p-methoxycinnamate, which is less UV absorbent. In addition, because of its rapid absorption properties, octinoxate may cause reproductive and developmental toxicity, making it unsafe to use for pregnant women, as well as children.

While Ambi Fade Cream is purported to contain only a small percent of these compounds, continuous and prolonged use f the product can still cause certain negative effects. In spite of its accessibility and the immediate results it delivers, it's difficult to rule out the fact that it comes with potentially dangerous disadvantages.

This product can only be used by those with normal skin type because of the presence of Hyrdroquinone in its formulation. Another detail that sheds doubt to the product's reliability is the fact that the whole list of ingredients is not indicated in the formulation's label.
