What's Up Doc?

By Gregory Dumonde

Sometimes, one feels as if finding a doctor who is comforting and calming can be like searching a forest for a lost earring. Besides for good medical treatment, you want to find a doctor that will make you aware of every step of the medical process with care and understanding.

In order to find the right doctor much research must be done. Reputation among former patients is a great way to start because if there was ever any malpractice done, you would hear about it. It is also important to know whether or not the doctor can specialize in more than one field of medicine, which will help you to better choose your general practitioner.

Choosing the right doctor for yourself might seem like a hard task, so when picking a doctor for your child it will require even more work. The first question to ask yourself is where is the practice located and will it be easy for you to get there? This is because of the fact that when children are sick, which because of their developing immune system happens quite often, you need easy accessibility all the time.

It always important to remember to consider your insurance plan. Many plans pose restrictions regarding the doctors that are or are not covered under the policy. On the other hand, many pose financial incentives to encourage using particular doctors.

An important point, which should not be overlooked, is the staff behind the practice. Who are they, and will they be kind and understanding to your needs? Are they helpful and responsive to your questions, or do they neglect to inform you of what exactly is going on in the practice regarding your child?

If after all your research you still aren't sure about your choice, ask if you can make an interview appointment to speak with the physician about your concerns and see if he can address them. After that you are good to go.

At Raleigh Medical Center every need is addressed and physicians are there to help with any concern. They are located in central areas and have a Durham Medical Center office as well.
