6 Different Kinds Of Hemorrhoids Surgery

By Jamie Briggs

The bother of hemorrhoids! They hurt. They might itch. They can be extremely painful. They can take over your life. When hemorrhoids are your constant companion, it is difficult to enjoy life.

Hemorrhoids are caused from veins on your rectum and anus. These veins swell and become inflamed. This occurs for a number of reasons. Constipation is a leading cause. Constipation can cause you to strain when moving your bowels and this causes the veins to become swollen.

Hemorrhoids can be classified into four different categories, ranging from first degree to fourth degree. First degree are the ones that are the least severe. Fourth is the most severe. Bleeding is a possibility with all types, but can become progressively worse at each level.

Home remedies can solve the problem many times. Surgery might be needed.

(1) Milligan-Morgan Procedure -- This operation involves the excision of the three most serious hemorrhoid types. A trio of incisions in the shape of pears are left agape, separated by tissue and mucous. This surgery is the most popular for hemorrhoids.

(2) Ferguson Procedure -- This operation involves incisions that are partly or fully closed. This procedure results in elevated levels of post-op discomfort. A three day hospital stay is required.

3) PPH Procedure - This method involves reducing the prolapsed hemorrhoidal tissue by using a circular stapling device to excise a band of the prolapsed anal mucosa membrane. This surgery leaves patients with less post-operative pain than most other surgeries.

4) The Harmonic Scalpel - This is a unique form of energy that, on contact, cuts and coagulates hemorrhoidal tissue, minimizing lateral thermal tissue damage. It is utilized when dealing with large hemorrhoids that may bleed during surgery.

5) Laser Surgery - This method involves use of a laser beam to vaporize or excise the hemorrhoid. Lasers are more precise and accurate. There isn't much pain after this surgery. They heal faster.

(6) Atomization - In this procedure, hemorrhoids are vaporized and vanish. This can be done with little bleeding. You will get better results afterwards with this surgery.

If home remedies are not effective or cannot be used on your hemorrhoids, various surgical techniques are available to provide relief. You doctor might select surgery for a number of reasons. He might advise you to have an operation in cases where hemorrhoids continue to develop, unrelieved. If you keep bleeding you might need surgery. Surgery is normally needed for prolapsed hemorrhoids. Surgery will be required if there are blood clots in the hemorrhoids.

Prior to surgery, doctors will attempt other methods. Sometimes rubber banding the hemorrhoids will work. In addition, administering injections is an option. In an effort to decrease the size of the hemorrhoid, medication is injected into the membrane close to the hemorrhoid.

Don't let your hemorrhoids go untreated. Do whatever treatment it takes. Don't delay. Make sure you are getting the best treatment possible for your hemorrhoids.
