Leaky Gut: What Is It and What's The Fix?

By Jan Haury

When you hear the term "leaky gut," it's definitely what it sounds like. We have these layers of cells that are built to keep the bacteria, free radicals, and various waste products from entering the blood stream. Unfortunately, there are some cases where people don't have this layer and it actually gets into other parts of the body. This is something that definitely damages the immune system, which is why this needs to be treated.

One of the first things to consider is that you may have a poor diet. This alone is something that can play a major role in your recovery. Individuals who are always eating junk food, drinking sodas and never really eating healthy foods will be more susceptible to the leaky gut. Then again, you may be taking OTC pain medications from a drug or grocery store. There are many other reasons as well, including some diseases and illnesses that can contribute to the problem.

Hopefully you understand that there are many ways to develop a leaky gut. However, there are ways to fix it as well. Just by going back to the basics and doing the little things like eating better and exercising more can be a huge help to combating this problem. Replacing fast food and junk food snacks with fruits and veggies will be very helpful. You will also want to get plenty of fiber and get rid of the alcohol, coffee, and "sweet tooth foods."

Each one of them contribute to better health. Another important benefit is that your digestive system will begin to function properly. The best thing to do if you feel like you might have a leaky gut is head to the doctor. They will be able to figure out if it's the issue or you have something else wrong. They also might prescribe some antibiotics and teach you how to reduce your stress levels to make it easier.

We aren't telling you to bypass the doctor, but you can combine their remedy with a few home ones of your own. Today there are many herbs and supplements can help eliminate a leaky gut. So the next time you're shopping, be sure to check for L-Glutamine, Vitamin A, Zinc, insoluble fiber, N-Acetyl-Glucosamine, N-Acetyl-Cysteine, Sea Cure, Epithelial Growth Factors, Aloe, Slippery Elm, Milk Thistle, and Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice. They will definitely be able to help.
